Id go the Yamaha Pacifica. We used to have one at school, plus I hate Ibanez's and shitty Squires.

I have heard that the Ibanez Jet King's are going to be coming down to $200 soon, can anyone confirm this and what do you think of it as a guitar?

I hope you didn't get that Pacifica....

Get an Ibanez RG, probably get a RG320FM for around $700 now, or just get that 170DX.

The only Pacificas worth getting are the high end ones, all the lower end ones (<than your price range) are shithouse. They deteriorate really fast.

Ibanez is my own brand of choice, but if you're a beginner and have no idea what you're doing, almost any guitar will do. It's my personal belief that one should begin humble, rather than immediately commencing with a high-quality instrument. I recommend the Ibanez GRX40 and AX30 guitar and amp packs, as well as the Ashton AG131 and AG132 starter sets. As a general guideline, if you have no idea what you're doing, but you have a $400+ guitar, you're extremely lucky, spoilt and/or rich.

I have revised my list to guitars to a cheaper price point now. And Im looking at the following:

Ibanez Jet King JTK1
Yamaha Pacifica 112
Ibanez GRG170DX
AXL Mayhem Clutch (If the AXL Marquee SRO are in Stores already then anyone know how much they cost?)

I can get the following combos:

PAC112 + Cube 15 = $494
PAC112 + Cube 15X = $528
PAC112 + Microcube = $478
PAC112 + Spider 2-15 = $598 (Probably getting a little expensive)
PAC112 + Vox DA5 = $528
PAC112 + Vox AD15VT = $598 (Probably getting a little expensive)
PAC112 + Epiphone Valve Jr = $568

Scrap the RGX121.

GRG170DX + Cube 15 = $504
GRG170DX + Cube 15X = $538
GRG170DX + Microcube = $488
GRG170DX + Vox DA5 = $538
GRG170DX + Epiphone Valve Jr = $578

JTK1 + Cube 15 = $394
JTK1 + Cube 15X = $428
JTK1 + Microcube = $378
JTK1 + Spider 2-15 = $498
JTK1 + Vox DA5 = $428
JTK1 + Vox AD15VT = $498
JTK1 + Epiphone Valve Jr = $468
JTK1 + Alesis SpitFire 30 = $501

Out of the amps listed, I'd say VOXAD15 > Epiphone Valve Juniour > Spider > Cube.

Since I don't know many of those guitars listed, go here and look at the reviews;

Yeah I know that site well, and only thing still in debate is the width of the Ibanez Jet King JTK1 compared to the Yamaha Pacifica 112 & how they work with the amps.

seriously theres no point just looking at millions of specs of stuff. you have to go to stores and play the guitars available. cheap guitars are known for being random when it comes to playing. you could buy one squire and its pretty shit and falling apart and you could buy another and it sounds really great and holds up. you have to find a guitar that suits you - if you dont know what all those different features are then it probably wont matter if you don't have them.

i started with a $150 dollar guitar from a second hand shop. 6 years later and its still the only electric ive ever owned.

Hahaa I was at that Billy Hyde sale at Camperdown, should've lined up on Wednesday to get one of the really awesome deals that were going. I got there at 7:30am on the day and by the time I got in everything was gone.
