pfft wateva, P4 is just got the branding, it's POS, AMD all the way mate, for value and money and also speed, pfft man they're speed ratings are just different, for example a 2500 Barton displays as 1.8 Ghz, when it can outperform a 2.8 P4 easily.. all i want to say is AMD rules and P4 Sucks :p
Pfft, P4 sucks, AMD all the way, pfft, P4 is a POS, pfft, AMD has speed, value for money, AMD all the way, P4 sucks, pfft wateva, AMD all the way.

LOL great argument :D :p

Let's just say that "we prefer, what we prefer" and it is up to personal preference what you use, and do not use. :)

LOL, I have my own opinion, and they are all based on personal preference, user-experiences, my own experiences (user-experience), my own opinions on reliability, how much I am willing to spend for a CPU, 'value' for money IMO, and so on.

I am an Intel supporter, and all of my machines run Intel chips. (PII to P4). :)

There is no persuading me ;)

Well currently, the fastest p4 outperforms the fastest athlon (not by much though) , however with the price difference, i would go for an athlon and with the money i will save, i can get a high end graphics card which will outperform a machine that i would have bought with a p4. But if your a rich Mother****er and u will get high end everything, then a p4 machine is for you. :D:p:D

I agree with the price difference vs CPU speed, and with the money that you would have saved, you would be able to purchase a new video card. However, you could always overclock ;)

Anyway, here's some news:

"Pentium 4 Extreme Edition"
Intels new chip for gamers and enthusiasts was officially unveiled by Lou Burns on the big stage here in the San Jose Convention Centre. The chip will sport an extra 2Mb of cache and will start at 3.2GHz. Lou, told his audience of developers and hacks that the chip, named Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, delivers "awesome performance". Burns said Intel had listened to the gaming community and designed the chip with them in mind. He said the chip will be available to buy in the 30-60-day timeframe.

Intel spokesman George Alfs told the INQ the chip would sport a 800MHz frontside bus allied to the 2.5MB L3 of cache in total. He said the company had worked closely with OEMs who build games systems and who really wanted something for gamers. He said the extra cache would improve the performance of the chip significantly, by reducing the need for the processor to go off to memory for data. This combined with the implementation of Hyperthreading in the chip will deliver unparalleled performance. Both Half-Life2 and Doom 3 will implement Hyperthreading enhancements to exploit the technology.

Shh!! :)

But they are good figures/points to read/know about, don't you think?

I've highlighted (bold) the most important facts to take out of the article.

I didn't claim that *I* wrote it :p

Of course, 3.2GHz sounds impressive,
so does the 800MHz FSB, 2.5MB of L3 cache, HyperThreading and games being developed which will take advantage of HT such as Doom3 and HL2, I don't believe this is "a load of shit" at all.

I mean, what part is made up?

I just want to read text, nothing else :)
No hassle, no nonsense. Not too many distractions too while I'm trying to absorb the information :D

Um... no?

That's making sense of the information, trying to understand where it's coming from, what it means for the future, any rammifications/implications, and cross-referencing with other news/websites to find out more. :)

Remember, intel tends to hype / exagerate its upcomming products allot. Dont forget, amd will be relasing its Hammer based processors soon, which have some nice specs. They will be increasing the L2 chache size later on too. Also, with the Hammers, they're clockspeed will be able to scale pretty high which means, it will shit on any p4 running with the same clockspeed.
Not sure if the 2mb L2 chache will help the pentium 4's much as the cache is increased, the latency is incresased.

Only way to find out is to wait and see. Reading intel's propaganda means nothing. :D
