painkiller was so good originally though
Yeah, I know, but Death (moreso Chuck) just gave it more...balls. It's (apart from Hendrix's version of All Along The Watchtower) the only cover I've heard that I think is better than the original.

U2 and Mary J. Blige ruined One ... but I suppose if anyone has the right to butcher the song, the original writers do.
Metallica's not that great to start with.

Huh? I'm talking about U2 and Mary J. Blige terrible cover of U2's One, not Metallica's song by the same name.

Also, on the subject of Metallica, their cover of Turn the Page was awesome.

Meh. *shrugs*

Oh yeah the cover of "Boys of Summer" by The Ataris was well done, compared to DJ Sammy's cover of it, just reeked.

best covers ever:

oasis - i am the walrus (the beatles)

red hot chili peppers - higher ground (stevie wonder)

guns n roses - knockin' on heaven's door (bob dylan)

jeff buckley - hallelujah.. although most people associate this song with jeff anyway..

missy higgins - stuff & nonsense (split enz)

muse - house of the rising sun (the animals)

While I usually think Country and Western is the Music of Pain, I have to admit Johnny Cash did a great cover of OSundgarden's Rusty Cage ...

'Golden Years' is Marylin Manson's only good 80s cover, the rest are pretty awful.
golden years is a 70's song, not 80's.

no kidding. they were one of my favourite bands for years, and i pretty much didn't even consider going to their show earlier this year/later last year/whenever the fuck it was, because i knew it would just suck and make me sad.

"Weird Al" Yankovic is also muh, and his parodies suck horribly. There's little originality to it and I hate his voice; it's ... just bad.
At least make it good, and not ironically self-parodying, like this.
No! Weird Al is awesome!

Yeah I did think that? Whats your point? I obviously don't know everything about music like you do. I don't really care for either NIN or Johnny Cash, or you for that matter.
