Hey people, need some help

I have my work's Annual Dinner coming up and its a Black Tie event.

Now i dont have many dresses, actually i have 2 options already:

-year 12 formal dress
-year 10 formal dress

my year 12 dress is full length with a cowl neck but completely backless, i think its a little too dramatic for this kind of event

my year 10 dress is a cocktail dress...will wear as a last resort

I think im going to have to buy something...what would be the best options for this kind of thing for something i could wear again? Its on the 15th of July so i dont have that much time :( (no time to go to sydney cos im working this weekend )

Anyone have any ideas? Dresses that are available in newcastle?

buy something in a simple cut but a nice fabric like satin...a colour staple like black or red that you can wear again. Make sure its past the knees. Black tie isn't cocktail, otherwise it would have said cocktail on the invite.

yeah i know black tie isnt cocktail but theres a lot of young people working here so it wont be full on floor length formal (i already sussed it out a bit)
but yeah cocktail dress to me means mid calf

i was thinking of getting something black or other basic colour in two piece (i.e. top and skirt) ill have a look around, i hope i can find something!

Buy a simple black dress.
Actually emily, right now in abicus (god when do i not talk about abicus) they have some really simple dark green and black dresses which are pretty but not overdone.
Or just go to any number of the formal dress shops in town (King Street) and bypass the 2 piece boob tubes and skirts and go to the calf-length dresses with spaghetti straps.
Dress it up with a really hot clutch.
Don't go to Charlestown, head into Newcastle.

I say find a really nice LBD
agreed.

Is there any way you can ask other people what they are wearing??

If you opt for a cocktail dress, then just dress it up with a formal shawl, and as bekiki said, a really hot clutch.

OH FUCK YOU I DID IT AGAIN
Not you. YOU - MY COMPUTER.
And the pic is so tiny em, I can't even see the bra (which i guess is a good thing)!
If the dress was shorter I would say get a fur stoll, but its not, so i say (to match your shoes) get a bronze wrap... that is get some material and get a dressmaker or a sewer person you know to make one (if you can't find one at the square).
I say bronzes/golds and browns makeups. Not too heavy, it's not town.
Heaps of shoe stores have formal handbags these days. But I guess you just have to hunt. I say a little beaded clutch would be good. I have this awesome pink beaded clutch (that my stepmum bought so it was way more expensive than what i would pay) that totally goes with black.

What I would personally do...
Wear black shoes, that way you can tailor everything to that, not have to work around the bronze shoes. I would then buy a green beaded clutch that i saw at wanted, green earrings and necklace that i already own and borrow or buy a black wrap. Then I would wear the usual blacklined eyes and a slick of lip stain.

Shit advice, i know. I tried. My other one was better.

Well I never run with the theory that "you won't see them"... because you just never know, you might.
What about when you sit down, the dress always goes higher.
obviously it's up to you though!
