So what is your blood type?
O negative (ie, the Universal Blood type, which approximately 9% of the population have)

I am always keen to donate blood, 'cept there's always the problem of bodily fluids being transferred for me - including sex, but mainly skin to skin contact through grappling while having cuts and grazes on me which is possible for diseases to be transferred through apparently so they won't take my blood.

I take this opportunity to remind you all yet again, if you say you can't give blood for some pathetic reason (you don't want to faint, you're scared of needles, etc), I'm sure you'd be more than willing to take the blood someone else had donated, should you need it.
I think its a personal choice, one which you have no right to judge in that way.

I think the same way as hipsta_jess but to date I have not given blood. How is it fair to take other blood if you won't give it for a stupid reason? I still can't get myself to waltz up there though.

I've donated blood about 10 or 11 times so far.

i wouldnt call afraid of needles and afraid of fainting pathetic
its pretty pathetic sayin that yourself
ever heard of aichmophobia
or some other people who have psychological problems or have had a traumatic experience
surely someone who's been in a car accident or lost someone close in a car accident and not wanting to get into a car
you cant call them pathetic can you
same thing applies here

actually personally i have no sympathy for people who dont donate blood then they can..

I think hipsta_jess is right.. i think its just cowardly..

btw ure analogy doesnt really hold.. unless they
know "someone who's been in a syringe accident or lost someone close in a syringe accident and not wanting to get an injection"

so unless you had a traumatic experience with a syringe i think ud be fit.. and then if its a pathological fear.. they should seek medical help.. psychologist and GP will direct them.. cos lots of treatments in hospital/medical setting/ accupunture involve sharps.... since you do not get medical help your fear is life threatening... i think very few in the population actually have this..

i have a fear of syringes.. i just dun look or think during the donation.

if u BP is too low or u havent had enough fluid or ure blood haemaglobin levels are anaemic.. yes.. i do not expect you to donate.. .. but they screen for a reason to prevent harm to you.

my analogy was for the traumatic experience
u didnt have to take it so literally
and relate it back to a similar scenario
i was talking about how something could have happened earlier in your life that affects how you think now.
i.e. the traumatic experience. not tthe same case scenario

cyan where are u to bring on some psych knowledge and put it into theory for me here

Your talking about imprinting of fear/phobia..
No it had to be done.
Too many people are blaming "conditions" that they may not qualify for to have a pathological fear (you need to qualify under a DSM-IV criteria).
Most people have a managable fear.

"I have low blood pressure" - CHECK with the nurses there!
"I faint when I see needles" - Do not ever get sick and end up in hospitals so many syringes.
"I have AIDS, HEP C or B or other blood borne disease"- Ok thats fair enough.

i don't think that 93% of the population suffer what your trying to explain and of them i think at least 20-30% of the population is eligible to donate. I just think that the 95% should just go and get screened and if they can, they should, doing a good deed for another.

"I only possess enough blood to run either my brain or penis at once, don't you be taking that away from me!"
