yay for boobies!

anyway, the hype and controversy really hurt the movie. it wasnt that i had high expectations, or whatever, i liked it, although i seem to be raving about munich more than brokeback mountain, and whatever reason it is, it says something.

It didnt touch me enough. And don't we all know that we love getting touched.

Brokeback Mountain is good, but not memorable.

i was also disappointed; found little subtext or depth to it, and thus couldn't relate their relationship outside of the context of the film. all the dialogue seemed really deliberated and emotionally inert. however, heath ledger was as good as they say, and considering he's one of my least favorite actors, that's saying something. and michelle williams was excellent too. donnie darko's performance suffered from the unintentionally hilarious pornstache he sports in the film's latter half.

anyway, nice acting, nice scenery, nice twangy music theme, little else.

it just felt... like there was so much between them that you didn't get to see enough?

I totally agree, the fact that several key moments in the character's lives are shown only briefly or not at all added, to me, a layer of mystery around the whole thing. Particularly in finding out that Jake Gyllenhaal's character had taken on another lover towards the end of his life, and in what he had said to his parents about this relationship with Heath Ledger's character. I got the distinct impression from the film that what the audience gets to see really is only the tip of the iceberg, which I found intriguing.

i didnt like the movie. a lot of the time, heal ledger was barely audible due to his accent, and i found that the movie didnt produce an intense atmoshere at all in the movie.

i think the movie didnt live up to the trailor either, thats just my opinion anyways

I thought it was nicely done. Personally the first half was a bit flat. However towards the end it actually started to hit its straps.

Both the direction and editing were excellent. I think it would have been less of a movie if it was directed by someone else or edited by someone else. I really hope that Ang Lee wins best director. He has a diverse resume and all of them are well done.

The acting was also good with no dud performances. I think Anne Hathaway was very good in her small but important role.

Overall it is a very sad story and probably not a totally unrealistic story.

i haven't seen the movie but i've read the book. the book's pretty good and i think the only difference between the book and the movie is that jake's character is supposed to have buck teeth

And I think it would have been more affecting if I knew nothing about it before I watched. I remember going to an advance of Million Dollar Baby, knowing little more than it was an Eastwood film about female boxing, and walking away an entire emotional wreck. I think that if i'd walked into Brokeback knowing nothing about it, I would have felt more. But because of the millions of rave reviews, and the word-of-mouth it's spread, it didn't take me as a surprise.

Just a thought. Some films really are enhanced from a grounding within the film/film's setting - this one wasn't.

same here. it was a great film and everyone in the cinema was drawn to it. but becuase i already knew about it from the book and reviews it's affect on me was limited.
