WASHINGTON (AFP) - Two of President George W. Bush's military advisors said that the US inability to find illegal weapons in Iraq means little.



Perle said he did not fear that the United States would lose credibility after Bush used Iraq's supposed weapons of mass destruction as his principal justification for going to war.

"If others are going to take the view that, because these weapons weren't found, nothing that the United States says can be trusted -- there's not much we can do about that," he said. "It would be a foolish conclusion to draw."

Of course it means little, I mean look at Iraq now. And as if the US, or who might happen to be the next superpower, won't just trample on those they want and can trample on.

Of course finding WMDs means little, even though it was the primary reason for going to war

But really, Saddam wasn't the main reason, he was the excuse. and now that he's been captured, who cares?

...The US actually gave Iraq its WMD. On top of that, they had reason to believe that low paid ex-Soviet scientists were defecting to Iraq(communism taught them to be greedy) giving even more reason. Who knows what he did with them...apart from use them for mass genocide.
I think the real issue today is N. Korea, esp. for us...just a pity they dont have loads of oil...

The CIA has finally said it (a little while ago) that they misled Bush with wrong information, and now the US weapons inspector quits and says he doesnt think wmd were there since the gulf war. How sweaty did Bush look when he was trying to explain that he had "...no...doubt in my....mind...that saddam was...very very....dangerous"

Hmm... let's see, what justifications are there for the war?

Weapons of mass destruction - not a reason since they don't exist;

Freeing the iraqi people from a brutal dictator - not a reason, the international group Human Rights Watch said in their latest report that there wasn't enough human rights injustices to justify invasion;

Capturing/killing Saddam - not a very good reason considering he spent his last few months writing a stupid novel about a well-bulit arab fighter (based on himself) fighting against the zionist enemy

Terrorism - there was very little links with Saddam and terrorists, and surely the arab world hates bush more than they did before the invasion

which doesn't leave much in the way of justification, apart from oil and getting bush re-elected.

Dont forget the random bombing and sanctions imposed since the first gulf war, in which the UN estimated half a mill. dead.

Of course, but not for a year. And americans have long pre-election campaigns.

Obviously Bush intended to invade Iraq pre-effortlessly and without conventional considerations. He even made such indirect emphasis on this agendal objective not long after his inauguration.

WMD was simply a clever yet desperately provocative move to open backdoors around the United Nations, since it was inevitable that they would not comply ever with Bush's pacing of demands. While all of this was happening, Iraq was a hapless pawn, and Saddam's days were effectively numbered by the very beginning.

I dont think it was just Bush, although he certainly has strong links with oil companies and his dad didnt bash up saddam much, but there was a lot of hype under Clinton about him possibly invading too.
