The way i see it, when the record labels start charging proper prices for CDs (they could charge $10 for a CD and still make insane amounts of profit) i will start to exclusively buy. CDs havnt depreciated in cost as they have become more and more accepted (like cassettes) anywhere near as much as they should.

I burn every CD i can get my hands on. When i run out i go and buy the ones i really want. Then some other poor sucker comes along and BAM...his collection is burnt and absorbed.

This is how it works for me:

1) I always download full album of each artist

2) I listen to the full album (sampling)

3) If i REALLY like the album I BUY

4) if i only like a couple of songs, i burn the album OR if i am totally disgusted i delete it.

:p so more like 90% burn 10% buy :)

Am i too cheap? ;)

Damn, i love my cd burner i've burnt heaps already

The money that most bands make from their album sales is negligible. If you are a true fan and really want to support your favourite band you will go to their concerts, which is where they make the majority of their money:).

My CD collection is just about entirely made up of legitimate CD's. If I can't afford the CD (which is most of the time) I will simply not get the CD. Sometime I will download a song or two but will delete it when I get the CD, or, if a CD has only one song that I like on it, I will usually just download it:).

I find it gives me a bit of an insight into the band and I like having the lyrics handy:).

Only the commercialised pop crap that is out there make this much money. Most bands that are worth listening to don't make anywhere near this much money:(.

I do this when trying out new bands I have never heard of before. For example, if I read about a band in a review that I have never heard about, I will download a few of their songs. If I like the songs, I will buy the album, and if I don't like them, I will delete the songs:).
