I got some of my marks back for trials and they sucked. Do trials really matter? Is it possible for me to get an atar of 70-80? My expectations have dropped... And my school's rank is about 179 if that helps...
My previous ranks were:
Eng St: 5/200 or so
Maths: 100/200
Ext: 48/58
Economics: 40/60
Earth Science: 3/16
SOR: 2/4

That was for first semster...

For eng creative: got like 4/15 :((((
belonging essay: 7/15 marks (maybe i came like equal 2nd in the class)
For economics the short answers so far 3/10marks. Economics is my weakest subjcet.

So, if i do rlly good in HSC, is it possible to get an atar of atleast 75-80+? My school marks exams rlly hard. :((
Or am i doomed? Ill post more marks after ive received more results...

I'd say 70 - 75 at the moment. I guess you have a pretty good chance of improving to 75 - 80 with a very strong external performance.

By the way, NWO for life.

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that if i get like lets say 80s in economics and 80s in maths, my marks will be dragged back to hsc mark..? Or do they calculate the average between ur school marks and hsc marks. E.g school mark for eco is 50. and hsc is 80. Do i get 65?

The whole point of the trials is to let you know what you need to work on. Learn from it and focus on what you had trouble in.

In life you can't give up just because you have had a setback ! You will always have setbacks , in life, in high school and definitely in university . Giving up will not solve anything .

Trials contribute quite a bit to the assessment score given by your school. However it does not mean that if you don't do well in them you'll never be able to climb back up - as long as you can study harder and learn from your mistakes for the actual HSC exams and do relatively well in them, you'll be fine. The HSC itself matters the most, and if you set your mind to it you'll still be able to get a great ATAR.

So technically yes, they can drag your marks down, but it's not the end of the world. There's still plenty of time for you to prepare yourself for those vital few weeks and ace them.
