Classical-Scientfic:

* Emphasis on measurement (controlling)
* Each worker is given a specific task and the repetition of them leads to greater productivity (Division of labour)
* Autocratic leadership style for managers meaning workers must do what they are told and they can't show any initiative
* Workers will feel bored by doing the same tasks all the time - little job satisfaction
* Long chain of command meaning many levels of management therefore a smaller span of control.

Behavioural:

* Emphasis on human behaviour and leading
* Workers can show initiative and discuss new ideas to the manager
* monetary and non monetary benefits are available which include discounts, bonuses etc. - This is used to motivate the worker
* Workers will feel good about the business they work for - greater job satisfaction
* Shorter chain of command leading to a wider span of control - the manager has more contact with the lower level workers

Political:

Don't know too much about this one sorry but I know it has something to do with power and influencing workers.

Relate this to the stimulus if you are given one and yes use headings for each theory, good luck mate! if anyone else knows more details about the political theory, post it.

yeh thanks heaps

um jsut one thing i cant seem to get my head around...if im meant to compare and contrast would the best way be to put a heading --> one paragraph on a theory --> a paragraph about another theory while contrasting to the other --> then next heading etc etc....

if they want headings i would definately start off by using the syllabus as your main guideline for the assessment.

understanding business organisations with reference to management theories

• classical-scientific
– management as planning, organising and controlling
– hierarchical organisational structure based on division of labour
– autocratic leadership style

• behavioural
– management as leading, motivating, communicating
– flat organisational structure, teams
– participative/democratic leadership style

• political
– uses of power and influence, management as negotiating and bargaining
– structure as coalitions
– stakeholder view

• strengths and weaknesses of the classical, behavioural and political approaches

• systems/contingency
– adapting management and organisational approaches to circumstances

a word of warning when you are comparing and contrasting, make sure you do not repeat yourself as this is a common thing done by many students
