heh you win. congratulation, you officially spent more money, time and effort in shopping for clothes than me. :)

just out of curiosity, coz i've never worn guy shoes before, are they comfortable? everytime i wear formal shoes, i spend a week hobbling around from the pain.
all the money u spend on ur clothes will never make up for all the pain chicks go through wen they wear those tight, high-heeled stilletoes.
They are like school shoes... they aren't exactly super comfy, but they usually fit quite alright and after being worn in a little bit become quite alright to wear.

Have fun hobbling around at your interviews. Hope you don't trip :)

OMG

I FOUND A MESSAGE LEFT ON MY PHONE FROM PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS..

On a sunday? wtf.

I'm happy. She told me to ring her back on Monday.

:)

Maybe I'll be joining you buddy!

(And btw, It was me who added you on MSN... I hope you dont mind)
Judging by your msn personal message "PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS :D", I'm guessing you must be A^2.

Congrats on scoring the interview. I hope you have a good time! Remember to tell your friends which firm has the coolest office ;)... don't tell those BAcc-ers; wouldn't want them to start telling me how sexy their UTS building is. jkjk.

Nah, I knew Viv/Alice from my year.

Hope your stocking doesn't rip :) I'm sure you'll find a way to cover it up if it does...

was alice the short, asian one? thats the only one i can think of...

meh..if it rips, den i run to nearest shopping centre and buy another pair before interview.

so for this groupie thingo, do i have to take my portfolio along? it juz asked me to bring a passport photo, so do i take it along with me anyways? or wait for them to specify?

well i juz heard, from a friend of a friend who did auditing in ey that it was v. boring and the people were horrible. she said that it's better to work in a med-tier firm than one of the big 4. is it true?

LOL I know how you feel- i never played sports nor was I a prefect.

Btw ishq... I didn't realise BAcc was done so early. I thought apps were due heaps later for that. I remember on the BAcc website last year it told us not to apply if we already have signed a cadetship.

Yeah mate they've changed it completely this year to coincide with cadetship offers.

Also the application form was cut down to a 1A4 page list of achievements. This is why I thought I'd never make it! lol!

That's interesting... for us, they came around with a digicam and took photos of us and then asked us to write our names on the back of our photo.

As for portfolio- I personally carried my portfolio everywhere in case it came in handy; along with additional copies of my resume/certificates so I could give the interviewer a copy. A few people laughed at me for taking this approach but hey, I ended up with a job so I'm happy :)

The thing is, Big4 isn't for everyone. That's something which I think a lot of people might not realise. Big4 is big, as the name suggests- you'll be one in a million (well technically, 140,000 if you work at PwC) so if you don't step up to the plate, someone else will be willing to take your spot. Right from the start you are going to be specialising, and whilst you have your own little teams, you'll be working with different people with each audit job. Don't feel offended if the partners (ie. your bosses) don't even remember your name- there's a lot of you to remember. And whilst you'll get promoted in due course, if you excel, it's less likely to be noticed.

Mid-tiers I think are a great place for a different type of person. They let you gain a better overview of business and accounting by not forcing you to specialise, let you build relationships with both clients and your regular teamworkers, have supervisors/managers/partners who will be able to keep a closer eye on your performance, encourage independence and initiative by being forced to do your own work since noone else will pick up the slack, etc....

That being said, Big4 is a great environment for a different type of person to that. I don't really know what defines a Big4 person, and honestly speaking, I haven't even done any "real work" yet; but Big4 has a lot of perks and I think ultimately, it's the specialisation which is the centre to everything. The firms will provide you with all the resources you need whether it be tech support, computer equipment, printing, knowledge managers, etc... to help you get YOUR job done. Salary-wise, you are rewarded for your dedication.

I wouldn't say that one or the other has longer hours or better job prospects- ultimately it all comes down to you the individual. How long you work, or how well you work- both types of firms will give good employees the chance to do well and neither type of firm will want to carry dead weights.

yay i got completely REJECTED from the uts Bacc!! and judging from the silence from the others, i guess i've been cut of all the lists. oh well *shrugs* i'm having second thoughts about this whole accounting thing. maybe i wasnt cut out to be an accountant in the first place.

i think i've finished the denial stage of being rejected repeatedly and am in a state of indifferent depression right now:(

Aileeni, I have a dozen people in my school who have applied at every single firm (in sydney CBD).

So far we've heard from:

UTS
EY
PWC
ARW
Pitcher
BDO

No one else has started making calls yet so don't give up hope.

Don't despair if you don't get into cadetships its not a big deal career wise. Its not like most people in Accounting go into traditional Accountant jobs anyway. Cadetships are just a career marketing tool to attract more people to the profession.

If you get rejected it doesn't mean you suck either. I've experienced first hand what the cadets in melbourne are like, especially PwC Mel cadets. (no offence to any pwc sydney people here, but every offence intended to some cadets from melbourne)

That bunch of jackasses are a pack of losers who think they know shit cause they can parade around in suits at uni, and act as if their photocopying jobs enable them to act like kings of Accounting 1A.

(takes a sedative) i don't have anything against cadets, just most of the bunch from melbourne, not just PwC either, but the biggest dickhead I know is from PwC. They discredit their firm.

I remember I was in a suit one day, and this cadet came up to me and was like "so mate where are you at?" and I was like "nah I'm dressed up for a career event, but I usually work at Safeway (woolworths)" and then he was like "oh..." and makes an exit. Those snobs don't talk to you otherwise.

LOL.......

I can see why you think lowly of us turtleface but every firm and every industry has people like that. Except maybe garbologists.

And aileen, don't feel bad okay? Even if you don't get a cadetship, if you really had a firm interest in accounting, you'd still go on to study it at uni and then apply for a job in the normal way (most ppl join as grads!). If you wouldn't study accounting at uni just because you didn't get a cadetship, no offence intended, but you probably wouldn't have been the kind of person which a cadetship is suited to- after all, cadetships require dedication to accounting.

i really do mean it though when i say i don't mean to offence to non melbourne cadets. Actually, more specifically, non melbourne uni cadets. I'm sure most cadets are ok. There are some ok cadets at melbourne uni, the key word being some.

but yeah ur right, whether you enter as a cadet, vacationer, co-op, ca achiever or grad, its all similar in the end.
