ok so i think my teacher is calculating my internal marks incorrectly.

What i think she is doing is this:
(this is just an example)

assessment mark 1 : 72/75 weighing 15 % /100
assessment mark 2: 98/100 weighing 30 % /100
half yearly 73/80 weighing 15 %/100
assessment 4: 48/50 weighing 20%
Trials is 20 % : lets say it's 95/100

and then she totals up all my marks which is equal to 19 marks lost altogether.
THEN she minises that from 100
so overall my internal mark would be 81.

so what im trying to say is, is this correct?
or shouldnt it be that the PERCENTAGE lost from each assessment should be combined and taken from 100% ?

It should be this.

72/75 * 0.15 + (98/100 * 0.30 ) + (73/80 * 0.15 ) + ....

If done correctly, you should get the correct mark regardless.

Your teacher should (Probably the slow way) get you score as a percentage, then times it by it weight overall and add it with the rest.

This, but OP i believe was talking about her marks.

However if the teacher does it the same way to everyone your rank shouldn't be affected.

but before the board calculates it she determines people's ranks like for half yearly etc
and she doesnt keep in mind the weighting, just the number of marks we've lost :L

Schools send in a mark not a rank and the OP is concerned at how the teacher appears to be calculating that particular mark. This mark is calculated by the school. The mark also determines the ranks and gaps between the ranks that the BOS will later use to moderate the assessment marks to report back to students in December.

who cares if she is doing it wrong. in the end its the rank that matters. if the top mark was say, 81% thats not what appears on your hsc. Its the top mark in the hsc.

But the ranks can get screwed up due to the teacher not marking it right.
