i saw her live 3 years ago. she hid under the piano for most of the time, and then did a q&a with the audience on menstruation. the most memorable gig i've seen, for better or worse.

also, i highly recommend 60's folk singer anne briggs if you want to discover her most obvious roots. not as angst-ridden, and more laidback in the vashti bunyan/shirley collins vein, but the same languid, hazy, haunting qualities are there.
