Changing interpretatoins come about due to new research and technologies. For example, the Lady of Oplontis used to be thought of as a young girl, but modern tecnologies like X-ray analysis, CT-scanning, and forensic dental work have changed interpretations on her and it has been discovered that she is an adult. Also, it used to be believed that the majority of those who died were elderly, or young, but new studies of skeletal remains show that a full cross-section of society died in Pompeii and Herculaneum.
