5x the MW of 1 glucose molecule.

I.e.

5x the MW of C6H12O6

Where carbon = 12.01
Hydrogen = 1.008
Oxygen = 16

(just off the top of my head)

But cellulose is a condensation polymer of glucose,
i.e.
n(C6H12O6) --> n(C6H10O5) + n-1(H2O)
or
n(Glucose) --> n(Cellulose) + (n - 1)(Water)
where n is a number.

0_0.

(6x12.01)+(12x1.008)+(6x16)= 180

180x5=900

900-4x180= 828.7 g

It's meant to be 4x18, because the polymer of glucose, cellulose/starch, is a condensation polymer, thus when they polymerise water is released.

ok so you have 5 glucose monomers that bond through condensation (release of a water molecule) thus there are four bonds being created and four molecules of water being released so we calculate:

(5 x molecular weight of glucose C6H1206) - (4 x molecular weight of water H2O) thus we have:

(5 x 180.156) - (4 x 18.016) =

900.78 - 72.064 = 828.716

Hope that makes it sound easier :)
