Q35 was "Identify which structures 1, 2 and 3 in the table are acids X, Y and Z. Justify your answer with reference to the information provided." Surely we dont have to refer to it all, they gave so much info that you didn't really need

bro i talk about all info just in case. like for the one with the h-nmr i talked about every single data point and the environment each peak was from

Like for titre volume if you match it (you have to use a mol ratio for Z btw) you get that Y and Z have the same titre volume. But since Z is symmetrical it is the third 1.
The titration data couldn’t actually be used to distinguish between Y and Z right. I just used it as a confirmation, after using the 2 other data to determine the compound identities.

Yeah you really didn't need to use everything, like I put the answers before showing anything, but then just ended up showing everything since if they've provided it you probably gotta show its importance

lol i just drew the two possible structures for E and looked at one of the peaks and showed how it only exists in one of them. I thought about adding the titration stuff for all the compounds but really didn't want to bother so i didnt

Yeah, you needed to show that since Z only forms 1 product it is symmetrical and since number 3 is symmetrical that is Z and since Y forms 2 products it is asymmetrical and thus it is 1. The Titration data was only to split between X and (Y and Z). For X you could have just said that since it doesn't decolourise it doesn't have a C=C and then use the titration data to show that the MM matches the titre volume (or vice versa).

I drew the two options as well and then eliminated

did you have to talk about all hnmr data points. You only needed the last two ngl, but now I’m worried I lost marks there

yeah thats pretty much what i did. i just hope they don't say you have to go over the titration bit for full marks bc you didn't need it and so i didn't use it

hmmm i wouldve used all data but i think itll be fine as long as it was elaborate enough

i just talked about 1 (i think the one with 6 H nuclei in it and was a doublet). it only existed in one of the two possible molecules i think
