Are we allowed to assume the equation for chord of contact for circles, ellipses, parabolas and hyperbolas in Conics?

Could they ever ask you to prove it in an exam? The proof isn't that hard.

I've seen questions which are worth 1 mark and want you to find the chord of contact so I don't know if it's worth deriving it for 1 mark.
