My understanding is that some traditions enforce circumcision for religious reasons. I've heard that it's actually cleaner for a male to be circumcised, but this is probably just a rumour. A baby would heal from the procedure in a few days, but a grown man would have to undergo surgery. The point is, why would you want to cut off a bit of skin?Matt_16 said:This is kind of a contraversial topic with differing opinions and something my older brother had to decide on last week when his baby son was born.
If you had a baby son:
1. would you have him circumcised or not?
2. If so, why. If not why not?
Also state your age, gender, location, and if you're male whether you were circumcised or not.
BTW, my brother decided to have him done.

the arguments go both ways...i can find some medical journal sources for you if you really want. personally, on the balance of probabilities im convinced that the snip is the way to go...dont you think that the health reasons put are rather spurious?
I could never circumcise a daughter. I could handle a son going through some pain but not a daughter. Im probably sexist in that regard.inasero said:Ethically is another issue- one might be hesitant on the basis that their children might hate them for it afterwards...but I don't think that this should be the case since the children will grow up with and hence become accustomed to it.
where the hell did you hear that from, that is a totally cultural thing (Ethiopian as far as im concerned)mattsta said:Muslims have their daughters circumcised.
inasero said:Yeah asqy both sources you cited seem to have the consensus that the snip is good:
1) lower incidence of UTIs
2) increased sexual function
I originally questioned the findings of the latter paper but since the p-value supplied is less than .05, we have good reason to belive in the integrity and validity of their research
It would be interesting to see whether the same results can be obtained for men who had been circumcised at birth.
And I used to think in simple terms to regarding circumcision- that God wouldn't have given us machinery which was redundant or could cause problems...
But maybe He does...e.g. tonsils which might get infected, appendix, etc etc.
