anyone know what the requirements are for claiming a spouse in your tax return?
does the other person need to live together with you?
what documents do you need to show it?
do they check them?

from what i know, u need your spouses income, how much tax they are paying/, if they lived with u for the whole year, um.. did they get covered my a medical fund. Like when i do tax returns for spouses, we need like all the information that is filled on the other spouses tax return. so yeha!

I'm quite sure they check.. =]

If you claim a spouse on tax, make sure you claim that same spouse on ANYTHING to do with the government (i.e. Centrelink).
