Hey guys

I'm confused :S
Im thinking of doing the combined degree of business and engineering,
says last years uai was 87.05 (this years prolly about the same)

anyways looking in the booklet i got on open day

it says, u can combine any business major with any engineering major.
then it has an asterix next to it.

at the bottom of the page it says near the asterix that u can do any business course as long as you get the uai required for it.

Now the confusing part is, the actial business course at uts u need a uai of around 94.

does that mean i need a 94 to do an actial business degree?

also if i can ask a few more questions while I'm on the topic,
would doing a double degree = alot more hours at uni? or does it balance out?

yes, if you are doing the combine eng-business they will be conducted at the main campus (broadway-haymarket)

as for the uai for this program, it rather depends on which of the two degrees you are planning to combine have the higher uai.
keep in mind that for the eng-business program your program will mainly focus towards the engineering discipline {150cp for engineering; 90cp for business = 240cp}

the choices you have for the business major is
Select 48 credit points from the following options: 48cp
MAJ08437 Accounting 48cp
MAJ08448 Advertising and Promotions 48cp
MAJ08439 Banking 48cp
MAJ09209 Economics 48cp
MAJ08917 Electronic Business 48cp
MAJ08440 Finance 48cp
MAJ08447 Financial Planning 48cp
MAJ08446 Human Resources Management 48cp
MAJ08442 International Business 48cp
MAJ08438 Management 48cp
MAJ08441 Marketing 48cp
MAJ08445 Sport Management 48cp
MAJ08443 Tourism 48cp

for engineering you have the following
MAJ03032 Software Engineering 108cp
MAJ03031 Telecommunications 108cp
MAJ03030 Mechanical Engineering 108cp
MAJ03028 Electrical Engineering 108cp
MAJ03027 Computer Systems Engineering 108cp
MAJ03418 Construction Engineering 108cp
MAJ03026 Civil and Environmental Engineering 108cp
MAJ03025 Civil Engineering 108cp
CBK90036 No specified major 108cp

for more information, refer to the uts 2005 handbook
http://www.uts.edu.au/div/publications/eng/ug/c10065.html

btw i don't think you'll be choosing your business major this early..,

mon on 1005 posts... ur on fire...

newayz i'm doing B Eng/B Bus and yeah, MoNNiE pretty much sums it up. To me, engineering seems relatively harder than business subjects so it's nice to have those business subjects. The first year is basically filled with engineering subjects (4 for 1st or autumn sem and 4 for 2nd or spring sem) with only 1 business subject in the 2nd or spring sem.

Workload so far is ok. Approx. 20 hrs of class time per week. It varies coz ppl do diff. subjects. Last sem business students only had 2 days of uni per week(because business subjects require you to do a lot of homework... the accounting textbook is 1000 pages and 24 chapters... lol... it's like a bible). It's not that hard though if you follow their weekly guideline..
Engineering subjects require you to be at uni more coz of lab and hands on experience. And yeah, some subjects like Math Modelling, it's more about calculations.

oh yeah, something out of the topic. Engineering has more guys. Business has more girls. So that evens out as well ;-)

The uai will increase or decrease depending on the demand for the course (ie. how many put it as their preference).
2 years ago, the uai cutoff was i think close to 88 and went down for this year. Doesn't seem like it'll change much for next year... not sure though. ok cya next year.
