Is it a good idea to combine enginnering with law or commerce.Hence Law/ Engineering or Commerce/Engineering.

Does anyone do any of the combinations?
What are the benefits of doing this??
Would it be a better idea to do Business/Law?

well which course do you have interest in? Engineering and Business are two completely different courses and engineering tends to focus heavily on maths. With double degrees is that you must put a lot of work into it and it extends your time at uni.

The theory behind doing a BE/BComm is that many Engineers become managers (or have to advise their manager). Also a lot of Engineers end up in the finance industry because their analysis skills are highly sought after.

People say doing a double degree is a lot of work. True, you may have to do an extra year at uni and extra credit points each session but I find that my Commerce subject gives me a break from my four Engineering subjects, so that I'm a little more motivated.

Do a bit of research on the uni website, specifically the degree structure. I say this because @ UOW the 4th year of the Engo degree features commerce-like subjects and you may find this will suffice your interest. Also some of my Com subjects mean i get out (ie. credited as done) of some of my Engo subjects and vice-versa.

How many hours do you do a week? Is the amount of hours uniform over different uni's? (if you know :p)

engineering is heavy contact hours. commerce subs not so. combined engo/comm means that you will have less contact hours since you're doing both commerce and engo subjects

what commerce subjects do you do? i thought first year was all engineering and then you do a couple of commerce subjects next year and you end up doing more commerce subs toward the end of your degree?

First year course is similar at all unis.

This session; (numbers=contact hours)

Maths, 4 lect + 1 tute
Physics, 4 lect + 2 lab
Mechanics, 2 lect + 2 tute
Design & Innovation 2 lect +3 tute

That is the normal workload for a this session for a 1st year Engineer. (Subjects may vary due to specialisations e.g ECTE guys do different subjects)

Marketing 2 lect +1 tute

Engineering total=20
Commerce=3

Watatank: Doing MARK101:Marketing Concepts. Technically not meant to be doing it but I enrolled anyway. Your meant to do;
1st Year-All Eng
2nd-All Eng + 2 Com
3rd-All Eng + 2 Com
4th-All Eng + 2 Com
5th-All Com

I'm doing it this way to give myself time to do more com subjects later, i.e. so i finish the core early

No, gonna major in accounting and if they'll let me double major, finance as well. Marketing is a core subject and it fit my Engo timetable best, so i did it.
