Hey Guys,

I'm a 2017 HSC'er and have been thinking about what I want to do after school lately. I've mainly considered commerce at UNSW however I'm curious as to how hard the maths component is, say, for a finance major. I haven't done 2 unit maths at high school and thus have disregarded doing economics despite it being my favourite (and highest-performing) subject at high school. I'm willing to work quite hard to catch up on maths after year 12 but I'm simply not sure if I have the mathematical aptitude needed. I've also considered law but working in some sort of corporate investment company appeals to me much more than working in corporate law. So yeah how hards the maths? Thanks.

Why don't you google the unsw finance handbook and look at some unit summaries

You'll be fine with finance. And you don't need law for IB.

You will probably struggle more with the compulsory statistics component to commerce, ECON1203, than with the finance major.

You'll be fine doing just finance. Stats may be a bit difficult but certainly nothing you can't pass or even do well in. As long as you have a basic grasp of maths you will be ok
