Anyone currently ENJOYING a commissioned based job?
I hated it. I worked for Austar, and it was base pay of door knocking people's houses, was approx. $90 each sale while if I was working Kiosk in the shopping centre, I would get a base pay of $70 before tax and before they took out $10 each time out of my pay, (until they eventually took $500 out of me through my payments to pay for things like my uniform...it was my deposit which I got back...30 days after I quit).

Chicky, the native people of Australia deserve our admiration and respect...

As for commission based jobs (this is the correct way of saying it) I don't think they'd work too well for anyone just out of high school as yourself...they seem to be more effective for those experienced sales representatives for example a car salesperson and those who work in realty.

I can't see that big a demand or market area for Austar in Wagga Wagga given that anyone who wants the service will probably already have it, and many of those you are interested, probably can't afford it.

I suppose if you have AWESOME interpersonal skills, as well as selling skills. You would do awesome. But most people don't because they lack the right qualities.

I have my own international business and I absolute love it. I have the ability to dictate my own pay, as I get paid profit, and not wages. And yes, i do get paid a lot, as I’m willing to take full-control of my own life, what happens with what i do, and my financial situation.

I don't have unbelievable interpersonal skills, but sales to me is easy, as I am very passionate with what I do and the products that I can provide to people. Sales is all about what you feel about what you sell, and what it can do for the individual you're presenting it to, not what their money can do for you. That’s why it’s pivotal that you’re able to sell a product that people want, and which you love yourself and that you’ll use yourself. Also, a company which you provides you with all the tools needed for you to do well in it.

And what are you basing that on? Have you had any experience in direct sales? No one is a born sales person. It's a profession which individuals have to learn how to do. The only thing that stops a person from even becoming successful in this field is only self-imposed limitations they place upon themselves, which results in a unwillingness to learn and an open-mind to new concepts and new skills. Secondly, it teaches you how to deal with various people and personalities. Thirdly, it teaches you, one of the greatest assets ever and that is the ability to sell. Face it, we sell ourselves every single day. For example when we go look for a job, where we have the opportunity to show people why our services can add value to ones lives and their businesses.

Although, it's not for everyone, as most people are too scared, to get out of their own comfort zone.They are not willing to take up new challenges, and grow as a person. They are more willing to look for reasons, why it won't work for them, as opposed to doing something about it. You don’t get paid for the hour you work, you get paid for the value you bring to the hour.

I started when i just came out of highschool. I have had no sales experiences, no customer skill experience, no great interpersonal skills. And, i still became successful in it. It just really depends on the individual, their willingness to learn and how ambitious they are.

ive got a casual job at david jones and i work off commission. its a really generous percentage and i really enjoy doing it.

and when its leading up to christmas my pay goes through the roof!

I am sorry if you're so successful in your international business based on commissions i believe you're selling yourself short by saying you don't have good interpersonal skills. You must. To talk to a customer, to have a relationship with that customer and you also need to have an enormous amount of energy and contentment with the product you're selling.

I am basing this on the fact that i am a trainer for a highly reguarded cinema and i am also a interviewer as well. Where this business needs to have people with great interpersonal skills. To be able to interact with a cusomter.

I disagree that people who are successful don't look how something won't work, of course they look at that. Take Coke for example, they found out that Vanilla coke didn't work. They didn't just keep going with the idea it will work.

Most jobs that involve interpersonal skills teach you how to deal and adjust your attitude for various people and their personalities.

The ability to see comes after those skills. Some people are born with them. Some people have no touble going into a room with 50 strangers and just talking to everyone of them with a hassle in the world, whereas others will walk into the room scared out of their wits.

I didn't say interpersonal skills wern't important. When I started, I had very weak interpersonal skills. I was timid of most people. I never thought much of myself and would often doubt and be negative about every single thing that happens. But, I actually did something about it. I learnt how to develop myself personally by working on my own personal development every single day, by facing all my fears and doing what I felt was the uncomfortable until it became comfortable. Because, I truly believe that your income will never ever exceed the person you are. Hence, what I’m pointing out is everyone has the ability to aspire to anything they want and develop skills and abilities, which they never thought they had or could. It just depends on yourself and what you’re willing to do and give up in return to it. It doesn't matter where you are right now. Just don't sit around, with wishful thinking and no action.

Did i not say that? Successful people are focused on coming up with solutions to problems, not whinging about why things don't work and how bad their current circumstances are, in which they're not taking action upon it to improve their situation.

Yes, so YOU were one of the few that could develop those interpersonal skills, which are the most important when dealing directly with customers.

I do not believe people cannot learn, of course they do. I have also worked with people that are now doing very well. Yet some don't, so in that case wouldn't it mean that one person can but another can't?
