Er... I don't think 2911 is an elective on top of 1011-1021-2011 sequence....

no wot i meant was that i cannot do 2911 and a 3rd yr comp subject with my electives. I dont do comp sci , i m doing BIT , but i like the comp subjects, so i try to do them if i can.

hmm, well 2011 sounds ok IF it is the same as Data Org except in C...but from the syllabus link, the topics taught seem to be very much like Comp1a/1b from 2005....

and what confuses me is in the main page it says...
2011 -> 1921

but in the comp1921 page....it says comp1921 replaces comp1021 ?!

It doesn't matter. Even with 2011 before, you wouldn't have been able to do a 3rd year subject together with the second year cores.

i cant? say for example, i were able to do 2011 (the old 2011) in 06s2, den in 07 , shudnt i be able to do a 3xxx subject?coz i ve met the re-reqs for it, hwo come i cudnt take it?

I think what it means is, 1921 is now done in place of 1021, but at the same time, they decided to change the content so that data structures is taught in first yr instead of second. In other words, the content of 2011 is now done in 1021 (but in seemingly less depth).

1921 seems to be kind of half way between 1021 and 2011. C is assumed knowledge, so they won't be teaching C again, but we did cover a lot of those simple data structures in 1011/1021.

The old 2011 seemed to cover more topics. You'd think now that it doesn't need to teach a new language at the same time, it could be more indepth than 2011, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

meh, as long as I get 2011 on my academic record, I'm fine with looking up the other stuff myself. I will be quite disappointed if we don't get Richard though.

EDIT: Actually, even if I don't get Richard it's not so bad, because he means I will have to go to all the 2011/1921 lectures.

Yes if you had done the OLD 2011 then you could do any 3rd year subject. I was replying to your post which was sounding you wanted to do both 2011 and COMP3xxx at the same time in one semester.

In the 2011/2711 exam, when they ask to write code, they mean write it as an algorithm, not in java, right?

When they want "code", they probably mean Java, otherwise they would specifically say pseudocode, ie an algorithm.

Yeah I know, I was planning to do it next year too but I have to revamp my own plan because of this.

I shall not mention any names but the conversation with one of the staff went something like this:

Richard organised the revamp of CSE courses and has been (and will be) preparing the 1911-1921-2911 new courses. Certainly a lot of efforts has to be put into it and probably richard will need to take a brake after 2911, which happens to be next year semester 2.

very interesting indeed. crypto is one of the possible electives i MAY take, but what has been putting me off is the 7 contact hrs/wk, and the huge effort for little academic reward (something richard says on his crypto website).

I've mailed richard asking him whether the rumour/s are true. What better than to ask the lecturer himself if something is running!

Heh, last time i mailed him he replied to my mail 6months later. It was weird.

Hopefully he gets back to me earlier, since im not a random anymore (i.e. he can place a face with the name now)

Don't worry george, if he asks me where the rumours came from, i'll gladly pass over your name (jkjk). Though I think he said the same thing to me, back in like wk9 or something in some school meeting I went to. He asked whether I was going to do crypto and I said maybe next year and he said, it may not run, but he didn't really seem certain, so I thought nothing of it at the time

Anyhow, george when are you planning on doing it then, get in touch with me man.
