I have an essay question:

Account for the success of the communist party of the Socialist Union in consolidating the Bolshevik Revolution in the period 1917 to 1921.

I'm not sure what to include, anybody got any ideas?

Okay with this you need to look at how the party gained control within Russia,
you could talk about the economic methods which they tried to gain control including the implimentaiton of War Communism towards the end of these dates.

The military means - the red army, how trotsky handeled the Kronstandt Revolt

Talk about Lenin's influence

Wow I have the same q for my 1/2 yearlys
Um I'd split up your essay into 2 sections: force & political manouevres (never could spell that word)
So talk about how they used terror to maintain their power, and then the political things they did (look at the early decrees) to keep everyone happy ie working day limited to 8 hrs, and suppression of opposition ie establishment of Cheka, banning of all non Bolshevik newspapers
Consolidation is how you get & maintain the power
also need to address the civil war, because ultimatley the winner of that will have the power

I have an essay question:

No one really seems to have talked about the Sovnarkom and Lenin's denial of the election of the Constituant assembly. By creating the Sovnarkom, he could hand-pick the best communists to pass laws on behalf of the 'government', whilst he slowly degraded the soviet to an "echo-chamber".

Also, by denying the results of the election of the constituant assembly, he denied the will of the people who had given 62% of the vote to Mensheviks and Social Revolutionaries, whereas he'd only won about 25%.

Oh, and there's the intial walkout of the soviet on the night of the storming of the Winter Palace. When the lusty-busty Bolshies broke into the meeting announcing the overthrowing of the provisional government, all these mensheviks, right social revolutionaries and Kadet party members walked out of the hall in protest (Trotsky said "Off you go into the dustbin of history")
