For a cheap material maybe try dancetime satin? It's usually fairly cheap.

get a towel and use it length ways, then get some jumper leads and connect one end to each top corrner of the towel and bundle up the lead so that it sits right and tie the excess up

hire one from a costume shop.

im actually gonna goto a costume party tomorrow, initially i wanted to go as a power ranger, but i didn't really wnt to spend much on my costume. and i couldn't really find a good enough wizard robe, so im gonna go as a cowboy instead. gonna go buy a cowboy hat *hopefully under $5* and maybe a fake shotgun. there's a costume store at yagoona with pretty reasonble prices if you get the full set! :)

I really really really wish I could help you...I have 2 patterns on me, one for Harry Potter robes, one for Harry Potter cloaks, but unfortunately I can't give you the numbers, because they've disappeared into the bowels of the labyrinth that is my room.

I do remember however that the robes are a Butterick kids' pattern, and the cloaks are a McCall's adult pattern.

When I had my HP clothes done, I went to Cabramatta for cheap satin and suede - cost me about $30 all up, and mine was double-lined - (I heard "poly poplin" (sp?) is very good as well if you can't get to the area). I then had a tailor who was a friend of a friend sew them for me for $60.

However that was my robes - I haven't gotten around to doing my cloak yet.
But from what I've seen, the cloak is much easier than the robes, so I may even tackle them myself after my HSC (robes are enough for me at the moment).
