you could write about a physical journey you have undergone and the experiences you gained and the new knowledge......coz it can be factual

well, i havent got back my mark for the story i wrote in my trials, so i wont tell u that one in case i went really crap, but my last one (15/15) was an inner journey - it was kinda strange: i wrote about a rubber plant in a doctors office. the doctor goes through a midlife crisis and through watching the doctor the plant comes to learn what is important...was strange, but individual at least. basically, under pressure of exams i just took a tried and tested, cliched concept and made more 'creative' by looking at it from a different perspective.

lol. When I first heard about this I thought "feck, i've gotta have an inner journey and fast".
Do you guys prepare and refine one inner journey of yours and tailor it to the question, or do you make ones up all the time?

Silvermoon, you said you used a 'cliched' concept to you story... my teacher freaks out each time we use a cliche in creative writing.

i need using a concept is different to actually using cliche's, but what do you teachers say about using cliche's in any sort of writing??? is my teacher just a flip?? a good one at that :D

well, i cant comment on whether ur teacher is a flip...most r tho...but he/she's right bout the 'u shouldnt use cliches thing' - i probably shouldve explained what i meant beta (like usual :p). i panicked when i got itno the exam, so i decided to pick a really cliched issue and discuss it from a totally new perspective - in mine, i did the whole doctor having a mid-life crisis thing, but told it from the POV of the rubber plant in his office. sounds wierd, i know (actually, WAS wierd), but it worked - the doc's mid-life crisis paralleled the journey of the rubber plant - ie. through observing him, the plant came to realise what is important etc. and i got to use humour and got automatic kudos for creativity. i also was able to avoid all the angst bs that would have come if id told the same story from the doctors POV. also, a dual inner journey. so all worked out. neway, thats what i meant by using a cliched concept and writing about it in a new way - it was easier than trying to come up with something completely new and different on the spot.

well. here it is... it all starts in the country side. a dwarf goes to the city to make it big in the kfc market. he gets hit by a car and has quadruple bypass surgery. in his old age after taking crystal meth for many years he deveops a keen "psychic" sense, and goes into making porn.

Hmmm, dunno if this helps, but in our trials our creative response had to be based on the quotation, "We do not take the journey, the journey takes us" Or somehting like that.

Anyway, my friend (who is a very sciencey person, and who doesn't have much of a creative side to her at ALL LOL) took the thing literally, and wrote about the journey in a personified way... eg. "The journey sat up and yawned... today he was going to.... ra ra ra etc etc" And for the first time in her life, she got 15/15 on something for english! she was so shocked.

But I think the entire class is now planning to use her idea in the HSC.... LOL i hope nobody notices...... :p
