Hi all!

The HSC is coming up fast (hooray ) and I just had one question about the creative writing component of Paper 1 -

Does it have to be a narrative? I've asked many people, but no one's given me a definitive answer. As the question is asking for a piece of creative writing, it isn't specifically asking for a narrative, it just says "a piece of imaginative writing".

So, what other choices do I have? I'd love to write a piece of poetry, rather than a narrative (which I feel is only the norm because it is the safest option.)

Look after my Band 2 naplan result with poetry (It may have specified form) I'd be hesitant to try..

Pretty much. Poetry excels in the editing process. Something you don't have time to do in the actual exam.

My teacher said originality is something that's sorely missed in the HSC |However only attempt poetry if you have the ability. So if you're not that great of a creative writer, stick with what you do know, but if you feel you are capable in creatives, it's up to you if you want to experiment.
