is there a way to overcome it - or is the buffer in my dvd drive the problem?

someone explain what it is and how to solve it so i can my computer can properly read cds/dvds with errors...

CRC is an algorithm that is used to correct corrupt data (to an extent). If the disk becomes unreadable at a certain point, you get a CRC error. Usually this is due to bad media (anything from dirty disc, scratched disc, or a poor quality disk) and there is little you can do other than to try and clean the disk.

so u viewing the movie while the DVD is in the dvd drive?

im just talking about in general, because it has happened for both cds and dvds

and it cant be a dvd error- so what im thinking is that its a reading error

cause it cant be the dvd - its new

If this is happening alot, you might want to consider there is a problem with your CD/DVD drive.

No, CRC is one of the mechanisms that are put in place to recover from random read errors. If CRC fails then there is something wrong. If you are sure the discs are not the source, one thing you can try (if you could) is to install a second drive in your computer and see if you get the same thing.

If all works well in your sister's computer, then its safe to say there is a problem with your drive.

You can't compare a computer's DVD drive to a set top DVD player - computers are more prone to problems and errors than a normal set top player.

Not fair :( lol

I often get cyclic redundency errors with my 3.5" Floppy discs. It can happen by ejecting the disc too quickly (ie. when the floppy drive light is still on).
This is the same case as to what my 100MB Zip Disc did. I was rushing to eject the disc and got myself the error, which prevent me to even open the disc (hence forth a disc format was inevitable).

A strange thing for this to happen on optical discs because the burning program should've waited for some time to eject the disc after burning.
