does anyone have any tips on how to tackle these questions...some times we get a text that is really hard to pinpoint any specific group...

well it's all about "using language appropriate to audience, context and form"
just consider that when you are writing - i mean if you're asked to write an informal speech to a group of high school students you are hardly going to use formal language etc.. and if you are asked to write a feature article in time magazine you would be using formal language, probably not including jokes etc...
just consider who would be reading what you write - and what is appropriate to them

Be careful but not to be to informal. I got told even though you are doing say a speech to Yr12 students you must still have a formal element, don't be to relaxed in other words because it is still an essay , just in different form.

thanks for the advice guys
what i'm more focusing on here are the section 1 questions which ask us to analyse the given texts and determine the intended audience for those...
any tips on that for making answering those questions easier???
