What gives me the right to lock people up in prison and deprive them of liberty?

Answering silly questions with questions works! :D

Well what else would it be due to? Our delicious stance on abortion? The tasty location that the Vietnamese embassy is found in? The delectable way we treat the Vietnamese whenever we venture into Cabramatta? Out with it, you ponce!

My guess: THE SPARING OF AUSTRALIANS IN VIETNAM'S DEATH ROW HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH OUR STANCE ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT!

:)

And my question is, SINCE WHEN HAS VIETNAM BEEN LENIENT TOWARDS AUSTRALIANS? LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN A VIETNAMESE JAIL AIN'T MUCH BETTER THAN DEATH.

Yes it is. How isn't it? Aren't you arguing that because death is so much worse from all aspects, that it's too harsh to be implemented?

Nah I'm saying that death would be a much sweeter option than bring in prison in some shit roach infested cunt of a country.

Which is unrelated to what we're actually arguing, I want you to show me where Vietnam has shown leniency because of our stance on the DP. It sounds like bullshit.

No Australians have ever been executed in Vietnam.

There are however two Australians who have been sentenced to death in Vietnam at present. They are both now relying on presidential clemency to save their lives.

And they'll get it, is my bet (and sincere hope :( )

But Katie Tully will surely attribute this to something else: the alignment of the moon perhaps.

Probably, but I'm sure an Australian will be executed in Vietnam eventually, on some change in political whim.

Why do you 'sincerely hope' they get clemency, when you support the death penalty, and they're clearly guilty?

For drug trafficking? Oh my no!

EDIT: And there's always the possibility that they're not guilty. Better be safe than "sorry" (as if sorry could describe executing someone wrongly anyway)

Van Nguyen was a pretty tragic case. I felt so bad for his mother. :(

^Another big reason why I don't support an active death penalty. Why punish the families of criminals?

yes theoretically
no in practice

:D

in other words, no. I simply don't have a problem with the idea, only how unfeasable it is.

hence why i voted "yes, only in extreme circumstances"
