My apologies for assuming your gender was the opposite to what you have mentioned.
However, you did not specify your gender.

Then perhaps I should have mentioned:
You madam are quite a mind reader.
You ought to be congratulated.

But where can one publish their own piece of written literature for everyone to see and appreciate for everyone to see on the internet?

I'm a member of allpoetry.com . It's a pretty active community, with a lot of neat little features. Basic, but good.

Although I use it less to "show off", and more as a muse generator (writing for contests, etc) or mass source of amateur poetry (usually "private poetry", which I prefer to the more technical stuff... which IMO can suck the life out of the words).

Some depressed people are great poets, but the vast majority just seem to hit the same notes. Over and over again. Catagorising their grievance(s) into cliches rather than expressing their unique situation.

A friend of mine writes poetry about the guy she loves. She even writes poetry about her feelings, using flowers and butterflies to describe her personality. Poetry is just too icky to me. I dont write it.

normal depressed people* are usually too self-involved to actually write poetry that doesn't inspire nausea, in my experience. it tends to be wafty, sickeningly woeful garbage.

i privately write feminist, beat-poetry.

*obviously excludes sylvia plath, etc.

Sylvia Plath = EXTREMELY depressed. I don't see how you can stick your head in the oven and not be majorly depressed. (Or however she committed suicide. I know it involves the oven.)

yes, i realise; that's why she's the exception to the rule of "depressed poets being self-indulgent wankers". i think her work is brilliant.
