Does asking out a girl mean having a girlfriend? (1 Viewer)

I asked out the girl I like and many people are saying that i'm dating her or that she is my girlfriend. Just wanting to know if there is a difference between asking out a girl (dating) and having a girlfriend. She is calling it a date and when other people call her my girlfriend she doesn't say that its only a date. So what does it mean? Is there a difference between asking a girl out and being a girlfriend/boyfriend (relationship)

I thought that asking out a girl will mean asking her out for the start of a relationship. If I knew this then I wouldn't have asked out the girl I like. But just thinking about it don't girlfriends and boyfriends go out for dates. Why can't asking a girl out mean the start of a relationship. Some of my friends and her friends are saying that its a date but many of her good friends are saying things that show that its the start of a relationship with a lot more people saying that we are boyfriend and girlfriend. I'm not sure what to do and how to change it into a relationship. I looked at the signs she has been showing me of liking me and that led to me asking her out.

You usually have to make it clear that you want it to be a relationship at some point. Some people consider it "courting" until then.
