Hi everyone,

I've been looking at different universities and what they offer as I intend on pursuing further study next year. I've recently become interested in UTS, specifically a combined law degree. But I was wondering if UTS has that campus feel like other universities and whether it will offer a worthwhile university experience. So my question is if it's possible to have a social life at UTS, or should I look into other universities like Macquarie, considering my atar will be high enough.

Thanks in advance :)

No matter where you go uni social life is what you make of it.

I went to UTS for a year and had a very holistic and fulfilling university experience. I met hundreds of people & was an executive on multiple clubs. I assisted the current student union directors in their campaigning, went to corporate networking events on campus & attended numerous self development workshops offered through the uni. I went on 2 camps and about 2-3 parties a week on top of social events almost every night - the majority of these with people across all universities in Sydney. This is in addition to securing a 6 month internship due to the IT faculties world class industry partnering.

I also know people that started at UTS at the same time as me, didn't interact with people and later lamented about how UTS had a shit social life.

TL;DR yes but if you want a good social life you really have to throw yourself out there.

Thanks for your input everyone. Does UTS have an area in the campus where you can socialise?

Current UTS student, comparatively to other uni's, UTS is really shit for a social life, 90% of students I see, go to class then go home, I don't even know if there are any open spaces to meet, its just the buildings.

It annoys me how people say which uni has more social life. Social life is something voluntarily, it's something you make out of it. The social life doesn't chase you, you chase it. Just becsuse u go unsw doesn't mean you'll go partying, or going to uws doesn't mean there's no parties. It's what you make out of it.

If you'd like to be annoyed, so be it. My question on this thread wasn't intended to compare the social life of different universities, but merely just to get input from those who are aware of the social environment at UTS like astroman. I understand that a social life is what you make it out to be, but obviously there are other factors which affect this. For example: areas to socialise, clubs, societies, atmosphere and so on.

Therefore, if anyone has any idea of what the general social life is at UTS, it would be appreciated.

"HSC 2017", although your statement is correct, there are way more factors influencing socialising at uni's than just being outgoing.
