People try and talk on phones while driving full speed. It takes attention off the road while people are still driving over the speed limit.

Also, it is legal to talk on handsfree in the car. Talking on handheld phones means people would only drive with one hand.

I don't think you can compare it to concentrating on the speed limit.

Phones weren't banned because they need people to take a hand off the wheel. They were banned because the conversation makes people stop concentrating on the road. All the research has been on the actual conversation not on only driving with one hand.

It make absolutely no sense to allow people to continue to use handsfree but that is the situation at the moment. If only using 1 hand was the issue then changing radio stations, drinking, smoking, rolling up or down the windows and everything else that might involve taking a hand off the wheel would also need to be banned.

I still don't see talking on the phone as the same as concentrating on the speedo. Talking on the phone (and visualising what the person is telling you) takes away from your capacity to understand what is going on around you spatially, because they use the same part of the brain.

They are still the same in that you are not concentrating as much on the road as you probably should.

And now we have come full circle to the argument that, well, you weigh up the sides and see that not concentrating because you are looking at the speedo and driving more slowly will most probably result in less accidents than not concentrating while visualising what people are saying, driving with one hand and driving over the speed limit.

Probably, but that only shows that it is less dangerous than driving while talking on the phone, not that it is not dangerous at all.

I was referring to the general argument that it is less dangerous than speeding at black spots. Driving over the speed limit at black spots is not is safer than driving under the speed limit (yes, this is the original argument, where you say it is)

It is safer to drive slower but the fact that you have to look at your speedo so much more so as not to get caught by the speed camera eliminates the benefit gained from slowing down.

*sigh* you argue like asqy, i will rewrite my post with the intended meaning:

I was referring to the general argument that it is less dangerous than speeding at black spots. Driving over the speed limit at black spots [when there is no speed camera around to make you want to stick to the speed limit or drive slower] is not safer than driving under the speed limit [and concentrating on your speedo because you want to stay under the speed limit because there is a camera] (yes, this is the original argument, where you say it is)

That depends on how much faster you are going.

This whole arguments is stupid.

People do not have crashes because on speed camera's, I have never seen one and I have never even seen one nearly occur, and I frequently go passed 3.... I havent even heard people suggest that they cause accidents either.... people dont look at their speedo's that much more, they decrease to 10km/h below the limit and then know they are way below it.... they certainly dont look down enough to cause an accident and in any case most people are going slow anyway so its actually safer! (For the 100m or so in which the camera is located at least). The funny thing is also with this whole 'its for dangerous spots' or whatever is a load of shit, I know that the 3 cameras I speak of are all on straights so I fail to see how they are in dangerous spots. There is also another one that is like just after a bridge which is also on a straight! And as people have said, all they achieve is making people slow down for 100m, then they begin speedin again (I kno I do), they are totally useless in other words and are nothing more then revenue raises!

The only thing in my mind at least that makes me not going above 130km/h is the hand held rader because you dont know where they are gonna be. This creates uncertaintly as to whether around the next corner their is one or not etc etc etc. Fixed radar is designed just to catch the odd fool so that they get some revenue, and like what were the figures last year... into the millions!

Amen to that!

Tell me daddyk how my post means that Im an idiot? Even if it was wrong, I gave explanations which were quite logical..... it is quite childish to just post something knocking someone without stating the reasons behind it (And you double posted to do it as well!)
I was going to point out all of your stupid "logic" claims but i couldn't be bothered wasting my time, so i summed it up in a way i thought appropriate.
