after reading the young writers showcase a while ago, i just realised only 2 students who did poetry made it and i realise that so many people do poetry but it seems to be the hardest...

hmm...i wanted to do poetry for next year but i think i will go for short stories

Hello, please don't feel discouraged by the show case.

you have to understand that the showcase is featuring people who got 50/50 (at least that's what I've heard). You might have realised that there are a lot more people who wrote short stories got into the showcase in comparison to the candidates who wrote poetry.

Please note that there are a lot more people doing the short stories (in fact, most people did a short story) than writing poetry. :)

I did poetry, it's hard work and a significantly smaller number of people do it compared to short stories and critical responses, which would explain the differing numbers in the showcase. If it's what you want to do the most, do it!!! One medium is not valued more than another by the markers, so you can still achieve a great mark by doing poetry.

I agree with Ash. The number of pieces featured in the Showcase does not accurately reflect the marking of that medium. The extension 2 course is to allow students to display their talents in a specialised area. :)

hey why don't you write a ballad?

do what ever you will find easiest not what you think will get you the best marks...... i did extension 2 because i wanted to write not because i wanted to get marks and get good scaling........
the showcase has only people who get 50/50 and even they got narrowed down according to my teacher who was one of the editors
so if you want to do poetry you can get 50/50 if you wanna make a website you can get 50/50 and if you wanna do a script you can get 50/50
but whatever you do have fun and try your best and try not to get stressed ...... oh and dont leave it till the minute

I did a ballad, and it's a pretty east poetry form. Easily and quickly researched, so that the only research left to do after that is on your topic/theme. :D

To KarmaKitten...

Do what you're most comfortable with... forget the whole showcase thing... if you prefer to do poetry go for it!!! Doing something enjoyable is alot more worthwhile than doing something that you don't really want to do... that's what I think anyway...

Im not meaning to be rude or anything but I'd just like to take ur attention to the fact that KarmaKitten started this thread in 2003...

but ur opinion is still valid seeing as though its true for all cases. Ur right there's no point in doing something that will make u hate the day u chose to take up E.E.2...
