word has it that this is a massive favourite of cops at schoolies weeks.

so, just to make sure we know where we stand, what exactly is public drunkenness etc?

But then what's the point of having alcohol free zones, if you couldn't drink on the streets anyways??
i know there was some submissions being made to legalise public drunkeness for under 18's around 2001, but i dont know why that was, or what happened with it...

see, this is the problem.

for the benefit of everyone here, i think its important to find out what the letter of the law is. that way, trouble is minimised, life is good, and so on.

I'm not sure on the law, but the cops will be handing out thousands of public drinking fines. If you are underage and they ask to see ID, say you don't have any, but you are 18. Be aware that the only thing you have to tell them is your Name and Address.

Public drunkeness is to stop rowdy drunken behaviour. If you behave yourself then u wont get in trouble

This is from a queensland government site.

Is drinking alcohol in a park illegal?
The Liquor Act prohibits the drinking of alcohol in a public place. This includes roads and parks but does not include public places where alcohol is consumed at the consent of the owner, for instance, a BYO restaurant or places covered by a liquor licence or permit. The other exception is when a Council declares a "wet area".

What is a "wet area"?
"Wet areas" are designated by your local Council to allow the consumption of alcohol in a public place, normally for particular occasions such as a wedding in the park.

What are the penalties for drinking alcohol in a public place?

The maximum fine under the Liquor Act for drinking in a public place is $75. Police Officers and Liquor Licensing Investigators can issue an "on-the-spot" fine that carries a penalty of $60.

Is it an offence to be drunk in a public place?

It is an offence under the Liquor Act 1992 to be drunk in a public place. It is also an offence to be drunk in licensed premises.

The maximum fine for these offences is $75 and police have the power to
arrest offenders.

No it was a half truth:

She couldn't see the autocue because of all the drugs she had taken.
