I don't know if this thread goes here?

I do 12units
In ext. 2 the topic conics made me reconsider of whether I should drop it. I mean it was very overwhelming and I think this where it made me kind of choke :speechless: . so imagine the later topics.. (that is my theory).. it would get harder right?
For the first assessment for ext. 2 I got 70%... and in 2u I got like 80s
So I'm think isn't it better to keep 2u?
Idk :p
I don't feel very brave in ext. 2 cos most of the students have already done the topic. So in class the lessons go heaps quick.

Should I drop or not? Opinions. :fish: ty

70% is a great mark. In the HSC, a raw mark of around 60/120 will get you a 90+

The exam is designed so you can't get full marks.

Not when everyone is getting 80s+
because if I drop I get to go back to my old english class where I can boost my english marks?
But isn't a band 6 in 2u better than a band 4 in ext. 2?

Thing is, X2 students are probably better maths students in general so don't worry too much about being a little bit behind. The scaling you get from X2 is worth it.

Keep it. A big effort can see you rewarded immensely at the end.

Conics is one of the hardest topics in 4U.

I suggest you stay and try to keep up with the fast pace. Don't worry about how others are performing sepecially if they're like asian kids who have gone to tutoring and already done the damn stuff. Trust me, the scaling is so damn insane even if you just get above a pass in the exam you'll still get scaled up to like.. 80. So its totally worth it in the end.

60/120 will not get you a 90+, but a low E3. Think more like. 80ish/120

But isn't that the same as a band 5 in 2u? So isn't it better for me to do 2u?

I've been doing 4 unit math for half a year and just completed my half-yearlies scraping a 80%. Initially I had many doubts if I could handle this subject and always told myself "If I can't handle it anymore, I'll just drop it". But after my recent test scores, I've realised that while intelligence plays a part, hard work is what gets you far in terms of marks! As long as you're willing to put in the effort in practicing past-year/exam style questions diligently and also be actively thinking about and fully understanding the concepts, I'm sure you'll do fine!
And yes, SCALING! for 4 unit > all other reasons you might be considering about dropping

Remember if you do 2U, your 3U mark only counts for one unit.

Whereas if you did 4U, your 3U counts for two units.

Go figure.

Okay say you got 90 for 2u
60 for 3u
and 60 for 4u
are you better off dropping or keeping?

Erm, 60/120 only aligns to around 85.

Source: raw marks from here.

I'm thinking of dropping. I'm kinda overwhelmed with my new topic. D: Plus, my teacher doesn't make especially difficult tests so this sort of gives a false sense of confidence.
