I'm doing pretty badly in Mathematics (2 unit), and am thinking about dropping to General Mathematics. My question is, how easy/hard is it to get a 90 in the HSC in General (which is what I need to prevent negative scaling)?

Stick to two unit if you can improve. It's still prelim. If you absolutely suck at it and there is no way you can do well in the subject then don't do maths at all IMO, general is hopeless and a joke of a subject. It's way easier than two unit and if you're going to do general you might as well do no math and pick up another subject of your interest.

not worth it to drop to general. 95% of the time you will get a better mark by staying in 2u
i agree with spiritual rather dont do any math at all then drop to general
