And as I walked out of the exam room, it occurred to me that for question 10 a), I should have integrated with respect to y.

The balcony was right across the exit of the exam room, 3 storeys high.

The End.

a. was easy... you just had to find the area of the full rectangle and take away the are to the left.
b. i wasnt to hard and im not sure if i got ii and iii right
but this q10 was definetly the easy compared to previous years

easiest, still a decent question, but as far as 10's go pretty easy. 10a) being worth 5 marks was a bit over the top IMO

I thought 10(a) being worth 5 marks was a bit extreme. but i'm not complaining, i got it, and i dont think too many people in my class did.
10(b), missed out iii entirely, did i well enough and ii I just gave the formula.
Better than I expected, especially when the epiphany came to me on 10(a)... i was staring at it for 10 mins.

ondroo said:
2nd derivative, subbed in and since L is obviously positive then the second derivative had to be +tive therefore concave up therefore minimum.
You also had to show that sin (alpha) is constant and that it is acute, ie greater than one. It was worth 3 marks...

everyone's right, Q10 was one of the easier ones. Although i didn't get part a) in the exam, i realise now how simple it was (and I think it will be the difference between me getting a band 5 or 6 :mad1: )
i honestly spent about 20 minutes trying to get part b) and I still have no idea. if anyone can explain it, that would be good.

I found question 10B easier then a
That being said, I think I did what people said... Integrate with it bound by the y-axis and minus the rectangle etc.
Um, with question 10b
I proved they were similar triangles, let the far wall equal "Z" or something
And then did a ratio to get an expression for Z
And somehow it worked out!
Then it was a minimum question, so differentiate and go from there

Ok to get 10b part a you needed to do 2 sin rules to work out that the length MF was infact s(l-x) or something.
Then the first part was easy.
I somehow didn't get the second part... my answer is NOT wat the answer was, which is annoying.
Anyway, hope u all did well

I had an hour to do question 10 but still could only get 1-2 marks of it :/
I think only the people who do 4U at our school could do it really...
I couldn't do a but once I walked out of exam it hit me.. too late though :p
