I'm a bit confused. What does an acquisition mean in business terms? How does it work?

So ebay pays Skype the company several billion dollars in order to have control over what they do and access their technologies?

but its a smart move by ebay, phone via internet is going to be a very big thing in the future and with ebay controling this they will make alot!

i'm guessing ebay has a majority share in skype.

its like how ebay also owns paypal. They keep the two things seperate.. but at the end of the day, ebay controls it all.

No it is for easier communications in large payments, like buying houses.
