does anyone know of any unis in sydney that offer a communications/international relations type double degree?

hey um.. face are you talking about international relations = international studies?

cos i am/was thinking about doing that- writing + contemp cultures with international studies, majoring in french.

basically what UTS international studies means is that you learn a whole bunch of stuff about your selected country- culture, politics, the present economic situation, the language (obviously) and then you go there for a semester (or maybe two, can't remember) and you actually go to uni there too, and get credit points for doing so.

hm okay i just read melb's post it's the same as mine but simpler. never mind.

oh and you get a full bachelor for doing it at UTS too. and besides,UTS is sposed to have the best comm courses in NSW...

err just go to www.uts.edu.au and look for the humnaities and social sciences faculty and look up the course guides, or something

At NSW, you can take under Media and Communications an Politics & International Studies major, but it will not appear in the degree title ie. it will only be BA (Media and Communications)

ANU doesn't offer communications degree, although it has an International Communication major under the BA (Internartional Relations) or any BA degree.

You can also take a Government and International Relations major at Usyd with the BA (Media and Communications).

I think that is about all your choices. International Relations/Studies is only really offered by itself or as a double degree with Law at most Uni's (UTS been the exception, but as mentioned before its a bit different). Your only option really is just to take a major in international relations within a Communications specialist program.

cut-off in 2002:
international studies at UNSW 87.95
international studies/law at UNSW 99.3

at UTS you can combine international studies with Arts in communication (journalism, media arts and production, public communication, writing and contemporary cultures, information management, social inquiry)
(cut-offs are 96~98)

also i think at USYD there's this course called Economics and Social sciences where you can do a major in government and international relations and then a second major from a wide range of faculties.

nah, i do architecture right now, but am seriously considering transferring next year. it would a sinch for me cos i got the UAI to whatever i wanna transfer to (which is, atm, either writing+contemporary cultures, media arts and prodcution or visual communication), except i'm fucking up my course right now

yeah, why is it that you wanna leave newcastle anway..? aren't like all your family and friends there? Uni newcastle isn't that bad is it.....

Sydney is pretty expensive to live in, i'm moving out next year- i've worked out that around $300-350 a week is just comfortable.

Oh, the good thing about UTS is that they actaully encourage you to work part-time, so that you get industry experience. Eg my friend is doing journo, and she goes to uni three nights a week, and goes to work 5 days a week to earn shitloads of dosh so she can afford to pay rent and lots of other things

i was gonna go to newcastle.. it was my back up if i fucked up the HSC. architecture there was like, 70. compared to uts/usyd/unsw which were high 80's/low 90's.
