From what I can tell, the best way to study for History is to write practice essays on everything and anything. I was thinking it woud be a good idea if everyone posted the essay topics they are given or hear about and then we can have a sort of 'resource centre' where we can go to find topics.

I'll post the ones i have up here in a couple of days ( Mine will all relate to Germany and Indo China but everyone feel free to post any ones , no matter what the module)

And remeber, ALWAYS use heaps of HISTORIOGRAPHY, because you won't get band 6 if you don't - you have to have plenty of relevant quotes and from different perspectives, and if you can pull in some stuff on revisionist school of thought (and can actually find a place to use it - which is almost impossible because it's so obscure) then you'll probably make some marker really impressed.

No one can visit the Somme battlefield without being impressed with the magnitude of the effort made by the British Army...credit must be paid, not only to the private soldier in the ranks, but also to those splendid young officers who commanded platoons, companies and battalions. Although new to this terrible, 'game of war' they were able, time and time again, to form up their commansin the darkness of the night, and in spite of shell holes, wire and other obstacles, lead them forward in the grey of the morning to attack of these tremendous positions. To many it meant certain death, and all must have known that before they started. It is not too much to say that when the Great War broke out our Generals had the most important lessons of their art to learn. Before they began they had much to unlearn. Their brains were cluttered with useless lumber, packed in every niche and corner. Some of it was never cleared out to the end of the War...They knew nothing except heresay about the actual fighting of a battle under modern conditions. Haig ordered many bloody battles in this war. He only took paet in two...he never even saw the ground on which his greatest battles were fought, either before or during the fight.

but the reason i am reluctant to do them
is what if i make a mistake somewhere in the essay?

well...if you want someone to read your essays as soon as you're finished you can post in the history forum and ask for advice as such. when we did WWI last year, the paper was mainly about Christmas 1914...and propaganda.

Hatty, if u want, post up your practise essays on the board and people can take a look if they are familiar with the topic and give advice... also, you could save them until u go back to school and ask your teachers to take a look at them, I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

and also if people have done some of those essays for assessment tasks they will have the marking guidelines to give you
