Looking at comments from others, saying they didn't find it that easy... perhaps around 83-84/100

hopefuly the 80-84 lol. I totally caned up some of the questions, but i really lacked when it came to calculations and the Electrolysis of Sodium chloride. I didnt really balance my study to cover everything but even if i didnt perform to expectations, im really glad i made it through and never gave up. I was expecting a hard paper this year for some reason and i guess we got it.

The cut-off has never been higher than 85. You know nothing. Repeat year 12.
how is it that people (non BOS officials mind you) come by such information?

Around 80%.

Many people would have found the calculations very difficult.

2003 HSC:
A raw mark of 63 aligned to a mark of 80 (Band 5) :)

a panel of judges determine the band-cutoff mark, it doesn't matter if the whole state gets it or one kid gets it, that mark will be the cut off for a band 6.

i wouldn't be surprised if they've already determine the cut-off

They look at the papers, then they determine the cutoff, according to cem who has been part of this process. As they have not looked at the papers, they probably haven't determined the mark needed for a band six.

The mark needed to gain a band six in modern history is around 83; this mark is around 85 for ancient. As chemistry scales way more than these subjects, it would not be unreasonable to suggest that a mark in the late 70s even would constitute a top band.

Tonight at the marking centre there will be only senior markers looking at randomly-selected Chem papers to refine the marking guidelines/criteria, and start to look at determining raw band cut-offs.

I think Chemistry is one of the most difficult HSC subjects, so I would say around 80.

Yeah my teacher is a senior marker and said most years its about 80, some years its been a mark or so less. So I think 80 sounds about right for this year.

Yay then i should get a Band 6. But personally i feel it will be around 85 just cause of the amount of people that get it and the difficulty of it.

The top mark is usually around 85, so it would be more than 10 marks less than that.
