Hi all!!

I'm starting my 1st year of Architecture at WSU and I'm wondering if unis such as UTS, USYD, and UNSW accept external transfers. I recieved an ATAR that almost hit a guarrenteed target but didn't quite get any offers (except for WSU), which I was highly disappointed and concerned as I worked hard in the HSC. I'm hoping to finish one year of Architecture at WSU, studying similar subjects mainly like the UNSW and UTS Architecture courses and reaching the credit points and hopefully other requirements needed for transfer.

I've researched and went through lots of posts similar to transferring from WSU externally after one year, then transferring into a another uni starting 2nd year of the selected course (with courses that aren't architecture) and I was wondering if the same can be done for Architecture - as I don't want to do 1st year of Architecture at WSU, then also having to start 1st year again at another uni.

If anyone can help me with this please do, so I know what I'm looking out for and trying to achieve this year, thank you!!

Generally speaking, you can transfer to another university for most degrees as long as you meet the academic requirements of the university that you intend to transfer to, and architecture is not an exception.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to determine the number of units that you complete at WSU that will be recognised as prior learning by any of the universities that you wish to transfer to. This is due to factors such as degree/subject similarity across universities, and each university's method for comparing units from other universities to their own may be different. For example, UTS may recognise more of your learning under WSU's Bachelor of Architectural Design for their Bachelor of Design in Architecture than UNSW would for their Bachelor of Architectural Studies. With that being said, it is unlikely that you will end up having to repeat your first year entirely, regardless of the university that you end up transferring to.

The good news is that you may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning either as you apply for the new degree or after you accept your offer. This appears to be the case of UTS and USyd, and would allow you to choose the university that recognises more of your studies at WSU as prior learning.

I hope this helps! 😄

Alright, thank you so much for explaining, it's really reassuring and it also gives me solid hope since UTS and USYD were my top targets anyway. Appreciate it!
