Under this new Act, can employees individual negotiate with the employer?

EDIT: Fair Work Act 2009 not Fair Workplace Act 2009...

Nope lol, Australian Industrial Relations Commission has been replaced by Fair Work Australia.

...
Actually, lemme check. =O

Edit: is double posting allowed? Yeah I was right, the AIRC no longer exists. FWA (Fair Work Australia) is now the main body responsible for industrial relations, reviewing annual minumum wages and they can also make "equal renumeration orders".

hmmm thanks daniee.

I wikied the page and I got something along the lines of:
"Under the Rudd Labor Government, the AIRC will become a division within Fair Work Australia in January 2010" source: wikied AIRC

this is little bit contrasting view isn't it? :S (that means it's still alive! LOL)

Lolol while I do love wiki, I'm not sure I'd believe everything it says.

I have the Industrial Relations Update: The Fair Work Bill and Australia at Work by Dr Brigid Van Wanroy (Lead Researcher, Workplace Research Centre, USyd). It's a booklet from some Economic Literacy Centre that my BS (lol) teacher photocopied for us, with some added in notes. If you want I could scan the relevant pages for you.

Will markers penalise students who discuss the Workplace Relations Act and AIRC rather than the Fair Work Act, considering the changes are relatively recent?

My class was taught the old piece of legislation and I'm just wondering what would happen if I used it :)

Ye...I am pretty confused with this too. I think in my answer (if I get asked) I will clearly state that AIRC does that and on top of that, I might add FWA and what it does lol

Given all this change regarding employment relations legislation, I doubt there will be that much on ER legislation, maybe just more on effective employment relations.

Guys, AIRC still exists. It's not defunct yet.

It will continue to exist until the 31st of December 2009. Check out the AIRC website.
what about Workplace Relations Act 1996?
Is it still alive? I wikied it (again) and it says "substantially mended" or something.

Just thought I'd give you a tip for remembering:)

Fairwork= Greater advantages for employees, Labour government initiative.

Workchoices= Liberal governent and employer benefits...

Office of Fairwork Australia: replacing Workplace Ombudsman

Fair Work Australia: Replace AIRC on January 1st 2010, Australia Fair Pay Commision and Workplace Authority.

Role of Fairwork Australia= Power to vary awards, make minimum wage orders, approve agreements, investigate unfair dismissal claims, make orders on good faith bargaining and industrial conflict.

It's safe to say that Fair Work Australia has taken over many of the AIRC's functions.

Our history

I hope the examiners are more clueless than we are.

I'd still talk about how the AIRC used to be in charge, and if you want - how there's a shift in roles to the Fair Work Australia commission.

You know I bet you some teachers wont even know what Fair Work Australia is.
