What's everyone's favourite work/s by the Bard?

From what I've read here are minin order:

1.Macbeth
2.Othello
3.Hamlet
4.Romeo and Juliet
5.Midsummer's night Dream

I watched Richard III, and it sounded really good but it didn't really catch every word at the performance.

Very tough question.

(Based on the 16 plays I've read..)
1.King Lear
2.Hamlet
3.Macbeth
4.The Tempest
5.Julius Caesar
6.Twelth Night
7.Othello
8.Timon of Athens
9.Richard III
10.Richard II (Underrated.)

My favourite sonnet at the moment is Sonnet CXXXVIII;
When my love swears she is made of truth,
I do believe her, though I know she lies,
That she might think me some untutor'd youth,
Unlearned in the world's false subtleties.
Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young,
Although she knows my days are past the best,
Simply I credit her false-speaking tongue;
On both sides thus is simple truth supress'd.
But wherefore says she not she is unjust?
And whenceforth say not I that I am old?
O, love's best habit is in seeming trust,
And age in love loves not to have years told.
Therefore I lie with her, and she with me,
And in our faults by lies we flattered be.

Cheery stuff. ;)

My favourite Shakespeare quote of from Merchant of Venice:

If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh?
If you poison us, do we not die?
And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?

A general question for everyone -- do you find that after studying a shakespeare play at school, u tend to really love and appreciate it afterwards?

The Merchant of Venice is my favourite!

"So may the outward shows be least themselves
The world is still deceived by ornament."

And I love Portia's "quality of mercy" speech!

Granted, I haven't read as much of Shakespeare as I should have. But I've always adored his comedies as opposed to tragedies and histories, and so have preferred to read/see comedies (in general-- The Tempest is horrible and I love Lear). Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night & Much Ado About Nothing are my favourites!

Also, I hate Romeo and Juliet too.

Why does everybody hate Romeo & Juliet so much? My year 10 teacher tried to make us all hate it, but I only loved the story more.

I've always been drawn to Romeo and Juliet... that build up of so much promise, and then the ultimate tragedy... I think people dismiss it too easily.. it's generally done at our school in year 8 or so, so everyone ends up saying "oh, its for kids", or something similar. I didn't like the reading of the Tempest so much, but when I saw it live by a local theatre company on a cold and windy night in the middle of the Botanic Gardens, I loved it. I also love Othello, even though we did it for year 11 English, mainly due to the genius of Iago as a character. And after watching the movie version with Kenneth Brannagh, I always walk around singing "willow, willow willow" It's so sad...

I know a lot of people love "Hamlet", and it's practically my favourite too, despite (or maybe it's because) the fact that I hate each and every character. The play's brilliant. Too bad it's influenced so heavily by so many other plays/stories.

But, recently "As You Like It" has been topping the list. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think it's great. :)

1. Julius Caesar
2. Othello (close to being #1 but)
3. Hamlet
4. Macbeth

I really dislike King Lear, doing it this year, and it does nothing for me, it seems like a really boring plot to me and the characters seem to have no real depth in comparison to his other works
