Anyone here interested in bollywood films?

I watched some, subtitled in english. Some are irritating with all the dancing-behind-the-trees part but I Loved "Kal ho nai ho" ? (2004 movie) or sthg like this.

Back to the topic, Movies that I like :

-The Spanish Appartment ( uni students living in shared appartments/college with international ppl will love this )
-The Notebook. (a must! and READ THE BOOK!)
-Dead Poets Society
-Spanglish (it's touching and funny at the same time)

I figured there may have been, but couldn't be bothered looking and thought this would suffice.

Good to see someone else preferring Manhattan to Annie Hall. I thought I was the only one.

Honestly, I love both massively and understand those who take preference in Annie Hall, but prefer Manhattan's subtler style and technically superior direction.

Exactly. The main criticism for the film comes in the acting, but I find the characters themselves are flat and thus the acting matches this. The story is interesting enough, but it all plays second fiddle to the cinematography and music. It and Days Of Heaven are my top two based on their aesthetics, actually. They're two of the most gorgeous things I've ever seen.

Barry Lyndon, Paths of Glory and Dr. Strangelove are basically tied for the spot of my top Kubrick film.

I need to watch Elephant Man again. I had a morbid fascination with the movie as a kid.

I lalso like The Shining, but I don't think it's a "horror" in the typical sense. I've always loved Kubrick's use of steadicam.

I think I must be the only person on earth who didn't like Raging Bull

And I'm one of those weirdos who prefers Return of the Jedi to Empire Strikes back.

I was the same, back when I was a wee lad - Return of the Jedi was my favourite of the three by far. As I've grown older it's slowly become my least favourite (though that still means it's one of my favourite movies of all time).

those are two interesting lists - lots of them i still haven't seen
for the 90s i could never get into the Straight Story. Maybe i should try watching it again or something but i thought it WAS sentimental
Miller's Crossing is excellent AND underrated. The Coens playing with genre at their peak. some of their best writing too. Likewise for Fargo, really.
I like the inclusion of Unforgiven too.

The 80s list is made awesome by the presence of Once Upon A Time In America.
it's quite sad, but The Empire Strikes Back may be my favourite of that decade
