So i'm doing hsc this year and will soon be applying for the courses in uni and it says that I should put nine preferences.

1. During the offers, will I get multiple offers sent to me by different unis or do they check my first preference or other preferences?

2. If I get an offer in the Early round, and I accept it, can I turn it down if I get another offer in the main or late round?

3. If I don't get an offer in the early round, will I get an offer in the main or late round? or is there such thing as not getting an offer at all 'cause if that happens, I'd be pretty devastated.

4. What's the point of putting in nine preferences?

5. During the december/january period, I'll be overseas. Can I still accept an offer? What happens if they need me for an interview or something? Does that mean I dont get in if I can't go to the interview?

6. In the UAC handbook dates, there's offers for october, november and december.. I thought the offers were handed out during January? How can they give you an offer if the Atar is not yet released?

I don't know the answers to all the questions, but i'll try my best!
1. No, i'm pretty sure they just give you your first preference. If you don't qualify for your first preference then you would get one of your others.
2. Early offers are only for a very limited amount of courses (eg. distance education). Most courses would be given out in the main offer round.
3. See above. And you can change your preferences even after your atar comes out, so in that case you would change it to something you would get into. Most courses, if you get the atar, then you get in.
4. Again, its so you can at least get into something. Most people would put the preferences in order of high to low atar requirement.
5. I think its mostly done online, so it doesn't matter. Interviews are mainly only for med (which is earlier than dec/jan anyway), or some special things like uts and unsw coops and interviews. Some will require you to put a special uac code. (such as unsw coops)
6. Atar comes out mid december. Thats why main round offers are given then (or around then)

Sorry if i'm incorrect about anything, feel free to correct me :)
Oh and remember you can change your preferences as many times as you want til December, and even after that i think it just costs money or something, so its not a MASSIVE deal to be set on what you want to do now.
Our careers advisor said to just make sure you at least put down SOMETHING down before September 30, then you can think more carefully about what you actually want to do and change it accordingly afterwards.

i'm not really sure on anything else except for question 6:
they're referring to the early entry offers, you can get accepted into the course you want for some places before you even sit the hsc :]

1) You only recieve one offer for the course you get into which is the highest on your list of preferences
2) If you get early entry, you will not get a main round offer. A friend of mine was given early entry into UTS law on a scholarship. He did not get a main round offer.
3) If you dont get an early offer, you can still get a main round offer. If you dont get a main offer then you can get a 2nd round offer and so on.
4) Mainly as backup. You might as well fill your preferences.
5) Not to sure about this question, although I'm pretty sure you can access your offers online and accept/decline any offers over the net.
6) Not to sure about this one as well, but I think some universities offer places off predicted ATAR's.
