What type of inequalities, the ones like (x-6)/ x-1 > 0

Just square the stuff on the bottom so then it will be (x-6)(x-1) > 0

Then draw a graph and see where the inequality is greater or less than zero etc etc

yeah im trying to breeze through the first few questions of both ext1 and 2. for a past pare for ext 2, i did the first 2 questions in about 20 minutes, and did fairly well. trying to do similar with future exams and such leaving me time to do the last few.

What are these type of questions called? and where would i find examples?

Express sin4t + root3 cos4t in the form Rsin(4t+x), where x is in radians?

I have trouble with these sorts of questions since i really can't remember doing them at school...

Normalise them!
They are in the inverse trig chapter (near the end)..followed into the SHM chapter.
Edit: They use cos(a+b)/sin(a+b) rules...whichever chappie that is in for ur book...

Oh damn, I hate those. I think they're called general solutions, or something.

I just remember that it involes adding the square roots of things...

Anyway, regarding the time limit, I don't think 2 hours is too challenging. I've been doing some past trials papers from my school, and there are usually around 7-8 questions. In assessments we got around 4 with the time limit of one hour, so 7-8 in two hours isn't too bad. I could probably finish with 5 minutes to spare, unless they pour in the hard polynomial questions involving 4 roots and a whole crapload of algebra. :p

just expand RHS and equate coefficients

e.g Rsin(4t+x)=R( sin4tcosx+cos4tsinx)=sin4t(Rcosx)+cos4t(Rsinx)
so u equate coefficients then u get 1=Rcosx and root 3=Rsinx
then u just do stuff to get R den put it back and get x as well
then re write again den u get the whole thing

and i dunno wat their called, i just call them "trig" lol

i think they are called transformations
